ACCORDIOMANIA - INTERNATIONAL ACCORDION FESTIVAL 2023

INTERNATIONAL ACCORDIOMANIA ACCORDION COMPETITION

 

Accordiomania Art with the partnership of National School of Arts “Panayot. Pipkov”, Union of Bulgarian musicians and dancers and World Confederation of the Accordion is organizing ACCORDIOMANIA - INTERNATIONAL ACCORDION FESTIVAL 2023 from 29 june to 2 July 2023. The festival includes the International Accordion Competition, which will gather accordionists from all over the world to exchange the latest tendencies in performance and create opportunities for future career development.

THE FESTIVAL INCLUDES:

• International Accordiomania Accordion Competition in 12 categories;
• National Accordiomania Accordion Competition in 2 age groups;
• Master classes;
• Workshop zone;
• Concerts;

 

1. RULES FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION:

1.1. Accordiomania International Accordion Competition is open to accordionists and bayanists of all nationalities.

1.2. The competition will be held in Pleven, Bulgaria from 29 june to 2 July 2023 in the categories below:
      I - V SOLOISTS
      VI - VII VARIETY
      VIII - X CHAMBER MUSIC
      XI - XII ORCHESTRAS

1.3. Application form and participation documents for Accordiomania International Accordion Competition need to be sent no later than 15th of May 2023. Participants, who apply after 15th of May but no later than 22nd of May 2023, are required to pay an application fee, which is 25% higher than the one stated in 2.1.

1.4. Required documents for participation:

1.4.1. Application form, which could be filled up online on the official web page of the event www.festival.accordiomaniaart.com.

1.4.2. All the following documents are mandatory and must be sent as attached files via online application form.

- Signed declaration of consent for processing personal details (original document required when arriving);
- Signed declaration of consent with the Regulation of the contest (original document required when arriving);
- Photo (up to the shoulders), jpg file + full name of the contestant as name of the file; For chamber groups or orchestras - photo of the entire chamber group, jpg file + name of the chamber group as name of the file.
- Copy of receipt for paid fee for participation (Without bank fees included) into Organizer`s bank account – Accordiomania Art Association;

1.4.3. All members of Chamber groups or Orchestras are required individually to send their application forms. In the application form, the name of the chamber group or orchestra should be mentioned.

1.5. For registration, the contestants are required to show an identity document (birth certificate, identity card or passport) for identification when arriving.

1.6. The Organizer confirms the registration of the participant via e-mail only after all the described documents in section 1.4 are received on time.

1.7. By submitting the application form and all required registration documents, every participant declares that is aware of and agrees with the terms of the Regulation and provides free of charge to the Organizer Association Accordiomania Art the copyright of all audio records, video records and photos taken during the contest.  By participating in the contest and in order to create and support the image in as well as in the country and abroad, the candidates provide free of charge to the Association Accordiomania Art all the copyrights, the right to record, play, promote, playback, organizing distribute the performances while the contest and the concerts - record CD, SACD, soundtrack, audio tape, video tape, video CD or CD-ROM, / CD-I, DVD, mini CD or any other existing or future music bearer , including the right on the behalf of the Accordiomania Art  to broadcast contestants' performances and interviews via any TV or radio broadcasts, live or recorded in Bulgaria and abroad. All the participants provide this assignment of rights for all the performances during the contest and laureates concerts for 50 years period, starting from the performance date.

1.8. The appearing of the participants is in alphabet order.  The order of appearing in categories from VIII to X depends on the age of the youngest participant in the chamber. The schedule of the order of appearing will be published on the official web site of the festival www.festival.accordiomaniaart.com as well as in the hall.

1.9. Every contestant may participate in more than one categories, but must not perform the same musical composition more than one time during the contest. The music instruments should be acoustic.

1.10. In case the fee has been paid but because of unexpected or any other circumstances the contestant can not appear the fee could not be refunded.

 

2. PARTICIPATION FEES

2.1. Every contestant needs to pay a fee for participating according to the regulation, as follows:
For categories from I to VII – 60 BGN;
For categories from VIII to X – 30 BGN for every single contestant from the chamber;
For categories from XI to XII – 30 BGN for every single contestant from the orchestra;

2.2. All the fees are paid only via bank transfer on bank account:

      Reference for bank transfer: Name of the participant, category

2.2.1. In a bank transfer, fees for more than one activity can be included, as long as it is mentioned in the bank transfer reference.
      Example: 
      Name, Category 8 + master class or
      Name, Category 6, 10 + master class etc.

2.2.2. In a bank transfer, fees for more than one contestant can be included, as long as they are mentioned in the bank transfer reference.
      Example:
      Name – Category 1, Name – Category 2.
      Name – Category 9, Name – Category 9, Name – Category 9

2.2.3. When the bank transfer is shared, it will be attached to the application forms of each of the members of the certain Chamber group.


3. CATEGORY REGULATION

3.1. SOLOISTS

I Category: Participants born in 2012 and younger.
Program duration – up to 5 minutes: Compositions of free choice with a different character, one of which must be originally written for an accordion.

II Category: Participants born in 2011, 2010 and 2009.
Program duration – up to 8 minutes: Compositions of free choice with a different character, one of which must be originally written for an accordion.

III Category: Participants born in 2008 and 2007.
Program duration - up to 12 minutes: Compositions of free choice with a different character, one of which must be originally written for an accordion.

IV Category: Participants born in 2006, 2005 and 2004.
Program duration – up to 20 minutes: Compositions of free choice with a different character, of which one must be written before 1800 and at least one original composition for accordion.

V Category: Participants born in 2003 and earlier.
Program duration – up to 30 minutes: Compositions of free choice with a different character, one of which must be written before 1800 and at least one original composition  for accordion.   

                         

3.2. VARIETY (soloists)

VI Category: participants born in 2004 and younger.
Program duration – up to 10 minutes:  Free choice of program with contrasting style and character.

VII Category: participants born in 2003 and earlier.
Program duration – up to 15 minutes:  Free choice of program with contrasting style and character.

 

3.3. CHAMBER MUSIC (up to 9 performers, minimum 1 accordion/bayan/bandoneon should must be included)

VIII Category:  Chamber group with an average age of participants up to 14 years. 
Program duration – up to 8 minutes: Free choice compositions with contrasting style and character.

IX Category: Chamber group with an average age of participants up to 19 years.
Program duration – up to 15 minutes: Free choice compositions with contrasting style and character.

X Category: Chamber group  with an average age of participants over 19 years.
Program duration – up to 20 minutes: Free choice compositions with contrasting style and character.

 

3.4. ORCHESTRAS (at least 10 performers, minimum 1 accordion/bayan/bandoneon must be included)

XI Category: Orchestra with an average age of participants up to 19 years.
Program duration – up to 15 minutes: Free choice compositions with contrasting style and character.

XII Category: Orchestra  with an average age of participants over 19 years.
Program duration – up to 20 minutes: Free choice compositions with contrasting style and character.

 

4. JURY

4.1. The performances are evaluated by international jury according to a 25-score assessment system. Each member of the jury gives a mark independently, without the right to discuss with another member of the jury.

4.2. The average score, rounded to the third decimal place, is the final score of each competitor. The order of the participants in the respective category is based on the points received, arranged in descending order.First prize is awarded to the competitor with highest number of points (only, if the received points are 23 or more). Second prize is awarded to the next competitor in the order (21 points or more). Third prize is awarded to the next competitor in the order (19 points or more).

(Example 1: First competitor in the order has 24 points, second one has 23.500 points and third one has 23 points. In this case First prize goes to the competitor with 24 points, second prize goes the one with 23.500 points and third prize goes to the one with 23 points.

Example 2: Competitor has 22.500 points and has the first place in the order in the category. The points are less than 23. Therefore, the competitor is awarded Second prize and First prize is not awarded. If the next competitor in the order has 18 points, a third prize is not awarded, because the points are less than 19.

Example 3: If the first two competitors it the order have equal number of points example 24 points, then two first prizes are awarded and second one is not awarded.)

4.3. The decisions of the jury are final and are not subject to appeal.

4.4. Upon completion of the competition, the results of the participants and the points given by each member of the jury will be officially presented.

 

5. PRIZE FUND

GRAND PRIX - Diploma and a cash prize of 1000 BGN will be awarded to the participant with the most points in Category III, IV, V, VI or VII  of the competition but not less than 23 points.

The Foundation "George Gulabov” Award - Diploma and cash prize of 500 BGN will be awarded to the chamber group with the most points in Category VIII, IX or X of the competition but not less than 23 points. If there are groups with same highest result the cash award will be split in between.

Cat. IV: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize   – 300 | 200 | 150 BGN
Cat. V:  1st, 2nd, 3rd prize   – 400 | 300 | 200 BGN
Cat. VI:  1st, 2nd, 3rd prize  – 200 | 130 |   90 BGN
Cat. VII: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize  – 220 | 150 | 110 BGN
Cat. VIII: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize – 140 | 100 |   90 BGN
Cat. IX:   1st, 2nd, 3rd prize – 200 | 140 | 100 BGN
Cat. X:    1st, 2nd, 3rd prize – 240 | 180 | 110 BGN
Cat. VI:  1st prize                – 300 BGN
Cat. VII: 1st prize                – 400 BGN

 

5.1. Each participant receives a certificate for participation.

5.2. The participants, who are awarded 1st places receive cash prize, the symbol of the festival and take part in the masterclass for free. The participants, who are awarded 2nd or 3rd place  receive cash prizes.

5.3. The participants, selected by the jury members, receive a certificate and the right to take part in Trophée Mondial 2023, organized by Confédération Mondiale de l’Accordéon (World Confederation of the Accordion).           

5.4. The competitors, who are awarded 1st place have to take part in the final gala concert with a performance determined by the jury.

5.5. Diploma for pedagogical achievements will be awarded by the jury.

5.6.  Individuals and legal, different from the organizer, entities have the right to announce prizes, but they can only be awarded by decision of the jury.

5.7. The award ceremony will take place be at the final gala concert. Any prize awarded but not received on the date is thereafter transferred to the prize fund for the next edition of the competition.

5.8. All winners must attend the final award ceremony in artistic dress code, suitable for media coverage and publicity.

 

 

6. ACCOMMODATION OF COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR ATTENDANTS

6.1. Аccommodation and transport are at the expense of the participants and their attendants.

6.2. An accommodation and food I needed could be provided by the organizer.

8. OTHER

8.1. The regulation and terms could be changed at any time by the organizer if any unexpected circumstances happen.

8.2. The organizers have the right to cancel the competition due to unexpected circumstances.

8.3. All Participants are required to follow the regulations, issued by the Minister of Health, RZI-Pleven and  Accordiomania Art which restrict the spread of COVID-19 from the start to the end of the event.

8.4. Participants and members of the audience, who do not follow the regulations in 8.3. will not be allowed to attend any events included in the program.

8.5. If there is any change made in any clause it doesn't  effect  on the whole regulation of the contest.

8.6. The regulation has been approved on 25th October 2022.
