Deyan Dzhenkov was born in 1997 in Dobrich, Bulgaria. He began studying the accordion at the age of seven in the music programme of St. Kliment Ohridski Secondary School in Dobrich, where his teachers were Ivelina Ilieva, Zhulieta Kapitanova and Sevdalin Simeonov. He graduated in Music Pedagogy from the Prof. Asen Diamandiev Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, where he studied accordion with Assistant Professor Angel Marinov.
In 2019, he founded an accordion school in Dobrich, which has operated under the Yordan Yovkov – 1870 Community Cultural Centre since 2020. Under his guidance, the school has developed into a setting for musical education and concert performance, with its young accordionists receiving awards at national and international competitions and festivals.
Masterclasses and concerts featuring distinguished Bulgarian musicians and educators form an important part of his teaching and organisational work. Among the guest artists are Petar Ralchev, Plamen Dimitrov, Angel Marinov, Toncho Tonev, Kaloyan Kumanov and Vladimir Mollov. Through these initiatives, he creates additional opportunities for young performers to study, exchange artistic ideas and gain stage experience.
In recognition of his achievements in music education, Dobrich Municipality presented him with the Young Artist award for outstanding pedagogical merit in 2022 and 2024. In 2024, the accordion school under his direction also received a collective distinction on the occasion of the Day of the National Enlighteners.
Alongside his teaching, Deyan Dzhenkov is active as a performer. He is a prizewinner at national and international competitions and festivals and performs with the accordion ensemble Accordion Dreams. Since 2024, he has also taught music at Radost 20 Kindergarten in Dobrich.
His professional work combines music education, concert initiatives and a sustained commitment to fostering young musicians’ interest in the art of accordion playing.
